Materia medica

In this day and age it would sound bizarre to try to reduce high body temperature by eating sugared wood-louses or to fight a roundworm infection by applying bandages soaked in concentrated ox gall. Having said that, it would also be wrong to assume that Mother Nature’s role as an important source of effective drugs would be irrelevant in present times: many exotic plants have yet to be scientifically examined. In particular, marine wildlife regularly provides for unexpected discoveries and still holds enormous potential and promise for pharmacology.

In our museum we offer information about historic drug making which relied on mineral, animal or herbal sources.
